Bowing in Humility
Read and reflect on Daniel chapter 2: 24-49
Daniel reveals the dream and interpretation of King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream recognizing God as the one who reveals (vs 27-28). The king’s dream is a true prophecy of how future kingdoms will come about after Nebuchadnezzar dies. Verse 44 reveals God’s plan for setting up an eternal kingdom. This occurred just like Daniel prophesied in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ during the future Roman Empire. The blood Jesus sweat (Luke 22:44) and the death he died (Luke 23:44-46) was only part of Jesus’ story. The eternal kingdom is here now because Jesus rose from the grave (Luke 24:1-12) and ushered in the kingdom Daniel told Nebuchadnezzar about.
The king and ruler of all the known world in Daniel’s day bowed before Daniel and said “Surely, your God is the God of gods and the Lord of Kings and a revealer of mysteries for you were able to reveal this mystery” (Daniel 2:47).
Do you recognize and understand what Nebuchadnezzar saw? Have you humbled yourself and bowed before the God of all the earth who offers you an eternal kingdom to join?
Think about it. Consider what it means to be humble before the God of the Universe.
The following verses are only a couple of helpful insights from the Bible on the concept of humility:
“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up” (James 4:10). “He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way” (Psalm 25:9).
For further reflection take the time to do a word study on humility in the Bible. You will find a treasure of humble wisdom.
