Names of God: El Elyon
El Elyon-God Most High
“The God who sits above all others as King of the Universe”. The first scripture that came to mind when I was researching this name of God was Genesis 14:18-24. The Priest of God Most High, Melchizedek, had just given Abram, God Most High’s prophet/leader a blessing. “And he (Melchizedek) blessed him and said, “Blessed be Abram of God Most High. Possessor of heaven and earth. And Blessed be God Most High who has delivered your enemies into your hand” (Genesis 14:18-20, NKJV). This is a God so mighty, awesome and powerful that words can hardly do justice to what the name El Elyon implied by Melchizedek and Abram both. Kings are concerned about their kingdom. This is God and King so completely Holy our sin should kill us just comparing ourselves to this El Elyon. This is God and King so full of perfect justice that not one thing happens in is His kingdom that He doesn’t see and rule over. This is God and King so merciful that His love for every individual in His kingdom wraps us in protection from His perfect Holiness and makes way for a relationship with Him through His life as God with us (Jesus). The God who sits above all others as King of the Universe created you, watches over every detail of your life and has a love for you that is eternal and beyond comprehension.
