Territory and Boundaries Part 4, God’s Portions

Read and reflect on Joshua chapters 18+19+21.

Joshua 18:7 “The Levites, however, do not get a portion among you, because the priestly service of the Lord is their inheritance.” (NIV) The Levites or Priests among God’s people would only enjoy service to the Lord as their portion. Their spiritual leadership and care of God’s people would be their portion. God, however, did not leave out their physical care. He did make provision for them to receive a portion of land from each of the other tribes, near their cities, for their homesteads and flocks. ““The Lord commanded through Moses that you give us towns to live in, with pasturelands for our livestock.”  So, as the Lord had commanded the Israelites gave the Levites the following towns and pasturelands out of their own inheritance. . .” Joshua 21:1-3 (NIV) They would enjoy spiritual territory of a deep relationship with service to God and to God’s people and physical provision from God. The Lord does not leave out details. The whole of idea missionary work and care is seen in chapter 21 as each tribe apportioned property to the priests. Nowhere in God’s Promised land would there be a place without spiritual care and directions. God’s spiritual leaders would be throughout the whole land! Where is your portion? God has surely given you boundaries, territories, and a good portion of a deep relationship with him. Do you see it? Are you engaged in sharing the good news of Jesus, your greatest portion, so that the land and territory you are in has spiritual care and leadership?  “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:26 (NIV)
