The Farewell

Read and reflect on Joshua chapter 23.

Joshua 23:14 “You know with all your heart and soul that not one of the good promises the Lord your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed.” Joshua is old now and begins his farewell address to the people. He gives the people a sound reminder of God’s goodness, faithfulness, and trustworthiness.

We should remind ourselves of the good promises from God at work in our own lives. This takes a bit of time to sit and ponder about the good things God has done in our lives. It is worth it because it keeps us focused on the God who does the amazing in our lives.

The remainder of the chapter contains that little word people do not like: ‘But’! With the ‘but’, Joshua reminds the people that if they forsake God and go and worship other gods and idols, they will perish from the good land God is giving them. Let us stand strong in the good promises of our God and enjoy the blessed relationship with him that brings peace and eternal life. Let the ‘but’ keep you focused on the good.

Blessings,

Ellen
