Deception

Read and reflect on Joshua chapter 9 today.

Joshua 9:3 “But when the people of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and AI, they resorted to a ruse . . .” (NIV) Yes, they did. The Gibeonites pretended to be from a far country and came to seek a treaty with Joshua and the Israelites. Joshua’s big mistake was that he did not inquire of the Lord (verse 14) about this questionable situation. They made the treaty, found out the Gibeonites were their neighbors and had to honor their word. They were saddled with a people group whom they had to protect and ended up making them servants. Life lesson here: inquire of God about all situations in your life, especially questionable ones! Look in God’s word for counsel, seek out wise and trusted friends, and pray. Remember Gods word in James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask of God, who gives generously to all without finding fault and it will be given to you.” Wisdom is needed to make decisions, seek it out.
