Emotional Health
Read and reflect on Daniel chapter 8.
Daniel has his second major vision. He is visited by Gabriel, an angel of God, who explains some of this vision being a ‘distant future vision’, verse 26. This vision has already occurred, and it concerned the rising kingdoms of the Medes and Persians, the Greeks, and the Romans. You can read about the happenings in the Bible and other valid history books.
In Verse 27 Daniel says “I, Daniel, was exhausted and lay ill for several days. Then I got up and went about the king’s business. I was appalled by the vision; it was beyond understanding.”
Daniel took care of his physical body from the emotional stress of the vision. He didn’t wallow in it or use it as an excuse to check out of life and do nothing. He accepted that he didn’t understand all what God was trying to convey but also accepted that God was sovereign and had things under control.
So often today, people are breaking down emotionally due to their own fears and anxieties over wanting to control their future. They are checking out and not getting back to a functional existence. Take the steps you need to rest, seek godly counseling if needed, and make a plan with the help of others to get back up and go about your business.
Do not let emotional overload crush your purpose and good work God has planned in advance, for you to do (Ephesians 2:10). Lean into God and lean on others to keep going even when it feels like life has come to a standstill.
Blessings,
Ellen
