God’s Word
Read and reflect on Daniel Chapter 9.
Daniel was reading God’s word, the scroll of Jeremiah, and realized that he was right in the middle of Jeremiah’s prophetic words written down from God. The word of God in Jeremiah stated that all of Jerusalem would be destroyed, and the people scattered in captivity because of their great sin of leaving God and going after other gods and treating their people unjustly. The captivity would last ~70 years.
Daniel was living in Babylon because God’s word was true, and God had done exactly as he had prophesied. Daniel’s first reaction to his reading and understanding of God’s word is to break down in confession and repentance for the sins of his people. That is the beauty and power of God’s word, it breaks the barriers of the heart and soul and brings a person to their knees in brokenness over sin. The best part is the confessing and repentant heart is brought before God so that God can restore and rebuild a pure relationship with that individual. That is the gospel message of the whole Bible, fulfilled and finished in God’s only son, Jesus.
confession (acknowledgement of sin)
repentance (ownership of sin)
restoration (removal of sin)
relationship (victory over sin)
eternal life with God (peace with God forever).
It’s a beautiful mystery that I thank God for every day. Meet with this God that Daniel knew so intimately in the Bible. His transformation of your heart is just words away in the greatest story ever written (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
Blessings,
