Names of God (LORD)

LORD(all caps)-YAHWEH-Eternal one

This name of God in the Bible reflects God’s self-existence. God exits because of who He is. God is eternal. The name also implies God is Holy and hates sin. It is used over 7,000 times in the Bible. “The LORD said to my LORD, ‘sit at my right hand and I will make your enemies your footstool’” (Psalm 110:1). Jesus quotes this Psalm about himself in Matthew 22:44 when he questions the religious leaders about who the Christ is. The religious leaders truly cannot answer Jesus. Jesus quotes this Psalm to let them know who He is- He is God the Eternal one, God in Flesh who was before, who is now and who always will be. Eternal life is what my spirit desires and it can only come from an eternal God.
