Not Forgotten

February 20, 2023-Not Forgotten (Territory AGAIN!)

Go back and read and reflect on Joshua 17:3-6 “Now Zelophehad son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Makir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons but only daughters, whose names were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milkah and Tirzah.  They went to Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the leaders and said, “The Lord commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our relatives.” So, Joshua gave them an inheritance along with the brothers of their father, according to the Lord’s command.  Manasseh’s share consisted of ten tracts of land besides Gilead and Bashan east of the Jordan, because the daughters of the tribe of Manasseh received an inheritance among the sons. The land of Gilead belonged to the rest of the descendants of Manasseh.” (NIV)

God did not forget the directions he gave Moses concerning this family with all daughters (find this in the book of Numbers chapters 26, 27 and 36). They received an inheritance of land at a time when women were not considered to be equal with the men when it came to inheriting anything.

I appreciate the grace and mercy of a faithful God to make good on promises. I imagine at a future date the words of this Psalm may have held great significance to the women of Zelophehad’s family: “Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy. For the Lord Most High is awesome, the great King over all the earth. He subdued nations under us, peoples under our feet. He chose our inheritance for us, the pride of Jacob, whom he loved. God has ascended amid shouts of joy, the Lord amid the sounding of trumpets. Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises. For God is the King of all the earth; sing to him a psalm of praise” Psalm 47:1-7 (NIV). You are not forgotten. The Lord Most High is awesome and sees you, your circumstances, and your needs. Cry out to Him today, for mercy and give Him praise for all things.

Blessings,

Ellen
