Territory and Boundaries Part 3

Read and reflect again on Joshua chapters 18+19.

The following verses are a good place to reflect on this topic:

  • Joshua 18:12 ‘…their boundary began…’

  • Joshua 18:19 ‘these were the boundaries that marked out the inheritance…’

  •   Joshua 19:10, 33 ‘The boundary of their inheritance went as far as…’

  • Joshua 19:18, 25 ‘their territory included…’

We see that God has specific places in mind for each tribe. No more, no less. My problem is that I don’t always appreciate God’s boundaries. I like to use words like resolute and tenacious to describe my personality. God might use words like stubborn and willful to describe me at times.

I need to remember to take surveys often (times of reflection and assessment throughout my year) and check in with God about where he wants me to be, when he wants to go there, and if I should wait a bit before moving ahead to new territory. The boundaries God has placed about me are for my benefit. I would be much better off if I would settle in and check on the boundary line first, before crashing ahead only to find out I am stepping over a boundary line.

In the end I want to hear the words of Jesus like he said in the parable of the talents Matthew 25:23 “Well done good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share in your master’s happiness.” I want to walk and work in the boundaries and territories that God is placing in my life. It brings so much more spiritual peace and happiness than forging ahead of my boundary lines.

“The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely, I have a delightful inheritance.  I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken” Psalm 16:6-8 (NIV).

Blessings,

Ellen
