The Final Farewell

Read and reflect on Joshua chapter 24.

Joshua’s famous Bible quote from verse 15 “Then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…but as for me and my house we will serve the Lord.” Joshua pleads with the people before he dies to choose the one true living God, not the idols of their past, nor the idols of the people groups around them. My prayer today is for those of us who live in divided households. Maybe you are the only one in your home who serves the Lord. My heart breaks for you. I know that you cannot count the tears that a parent sheds for their children who willfully walk away from the Living God. I know that you do not hear the sobs of the spouse who pleads for God to bring the love of their life into the eternal kingdom.

King David expressed it so eloquently in his Psalm, “You yourself have kept track of my misery. Put my tears into your bottle-aren’t they on your scroll already?” Psalm 56:8 (CEB) God hears every sob and records every tear. Have strength and take to heart the words God spoke to Joshua before they entered the Promised Land. “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” Joshua 1:9.

God is with you. Continue to pray faithfully for your household, that they might see the good, unfailing promises of God and desire the same relationship with God that you enjoy. 2 Corinthians 10: 4, 5 says “The weapons we fight with are not weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” (NIV)

Prayer is the divine power that will aid you in calling your household into the service of the Lord. Let the tears fall and sobs be heard by the Lord, he will answer.

Blessings,

Ellen
