Fasting Focus

Fasting and Focus

Read and reflect on Daniel chapter 10.

“At that time, I, Daniel, mourned for 3 weeks. I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips. . .” (Daniel 10:2).

We learned back in chapter one that Daniel withheld choice foods from himself and his friends to honor God. He made it a habit. Sure, you could say it was a practice of piety for his religion, but it also was his way of drawing closer to God.

Do you ever fast or withhold everyday pleasures from yourself to reflect more closely on your relationship with God?

From chapter 1 to chapter 10 Daniel has aged from a teenager to a man of 80+years and served four kings. His practice of fasting and mourning over the sin of his people served to draw him closer to God and prepare his mind for receiving some of the most amazing prophetic visions of all time.

Think of something you could ‘fast’ from this week. Use your time away from what you are giving up and reflect on your relationship with God.

Maybe even enter into intercessory prayer for someone or a certain situation during your time of fasting and reflecting. God loves to hear from His people. Turn your face and heart towards heaven like Daniel did on a regular basis. Fast and pray.

Blessings,

Ellen
