?Retirement?

November 22, 2022-Retirement?

Read and reflect on Joshua chapter 13 today.

Joshua 13:1 “You are very old and there are still very large areas of land to be taken over.”

God makes a matter-of fact statement to Joshua. No mention of a retirement party. Just a reminder that God’s servants do not retire, the battle continues even in old age! It is possible to battle and fight well into old age when you are letting God do the main part of the work and relying on his strength to get through each day. God gives supernatural victories despite age, race, level of frailty, education, wealth, or any other human label. Let God keep fighting for you. The same can be said if you are young. The Apostle Paul writes encouragement to his beloved young charge, Timothy, and says,  “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity” (1 Timothy 4:12). Timothy, a very young new pastor, went on to become a pillar in Christ’s church, preaching and training many and sending the word of the Lord out to the surrounding area. So, we work from youth until our last breath sharing in the purposes that God has designed for us. God’s people don’t retire, they just gracefully continue serving alongside him.

Blessings,

Ellen
